Cavern City Tours launched their daily “Magical Mystery Tour” back in 1991 and it has been running ever since. With up to 6 tours a day, this two-hour trip around the key Beatles sites takes you through Ringo’s Dingle, Penny Lane – with a stop at the street sign – to George Harrison’s childhood home, where you also get off for a short walk. You will then pass John Lennon’s home at “Mendips”, St. Peter’s Church, a photo-opportunity outside Strawberry Field gates before a quick walk to see Paul McCartney’s home at 20, Forthlin Road. The tour finishes at The Cavern Club. Thousands of fans take this tour every year.

National Trust Tour of John and Paul’s Childhood Homes

The National Trust own and operate a tour that takes you to John Lennon’s home at “Mendips”, where the curator will welcome you inside the house. This is your only opportunity to go inside the house. You will then be taken to Paul McCartney’s childhood home, 20, Forthlin Road, where you also get the chance to explore inside the house. These homes are incredible and have both been restored to how they would have looked in the 1950s. There are 4 tours a day, and each tour is limited to about 15 people only. Also, they are not open during the winter months, so check ahead.

The famous Salvation Army home that John Lennon wrote about in “Strawberry Fields Forever” is now open as a Visitor centre. You can walk around the grounds and visit their interactive exhibit, while you can also enjoy their café. There is a minibus that takes you from the Albert Dock to Strawberry Field. A unique experience which helps you understand the place that meant so much to John Lennon.
